IP SEMINAR 2018 @ AIRBUS

Brice Allibert holds a degree in engineering and a PhD in mathematics from the Ecole Polytechnique, in Paris. After a first position as a specialist of aircraft electromagnetics in the French Ministry of Defence, Brice joined the European Commission in 2000. He was first a case handler in the unit in charge of the control of state aid for R&D and to the energy sector. Brice joined antitrust in 2007, in the unit responsible for antitrust enforcement in IT, Internet and consumer microelectronics. He worked in particular on the Intel, Google (Shopping and Android) and Qualcomm cases. He was appointed deputy to the Head of Unit in 2015.

Mark has been Senior IP Counsel with Hexcel for over twenty years. Hexcel is a leading manufacturer of carbon fiber, honeycomb and other composite materials. In addition to growing Hexcel’s portfolio of patents, Mark works on cooperation, licensing, sales and other agreements.

Laura is working as Senior IP counsel at Koninklijke Philips N.V.  Before being in this role, she worked as Legal counsel within Philips Group Legal and for Koninklijke TenCate N.V. She started her career as an attorney-at-law in a Dutch law firm and covered all areas of IP law during het carreer. In her current role she focusses on soft IP matter with a strong focus on enforcement.

Anthony has worked as an IP professional for over seventeen years; leading business transformation projects, technology led process re-engineering and digital product teams. “It’s all about the using technology in the right way to improve the customer experience - What you really need to create great digital products is a combination of intellectual curiosity and empathy.”

Pauline Debré is a partner, heading the intellectual property practice of Linklaters in Paris. Her practice focuses primarily on national and cross border patent litigation, notably in the healthcare and telecommunications sectors. Pauline also has significant experience in complex IP disputes involving competition issues. Pauline is co-head of the patent and standards AIPPI Standing Committee and of the Patent Commission of the French group. She is listed in Chambers, in Who’s Who Legal Patent, and is ranked among the “Best lawyers” in IP in France.

Fabien DUMON has a university background in computer science. In 1998, it enters to Schlumberger the R&D smart card team as a software developer. In 2001, he joined Airbus group (EADS Telecom at the time) at department PMR (Professional Mobile Radio) as a software developer. It integrates then the Studies and Innovating Concepts as a lead developer (2004) then technical manager (2008) on simulations and trainings projects in the entity EADS Defence & Security (become then Cassidian and finally Airbus Defence & Space). He specializes in new technologies and their use in training systems. Since 2015, he is responsible for the mixed reality activities in the Airbus Defence & Space Digital Incubator.

Sasha Rao is Chair of Maynard Cooper & Gale's global Intellectual Property Practice. She is a seasoned intellectual property lawyer with an established record of success for some of the world's leading companies. Sasha regularly leads intellectual property and commercial litigation in the United States for her clients, including cases involving patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, unfair competition, and complex commercial disputes. Registered to practice in the US Patent and Trademark Of?ce, she represents clients in Patent Of?ce trials, including covered business method (CBM) and inter partes review (IPR) post-grant invalidity challenges available under the America Invents Act. Sasha also advises clients on corporate, transactional, policy and regulatory matters, including IP aspects of mergers and acquisitions. Sasha's enthusiasm for cutting-edge technologies has led to her being recognized as one of the leading practitioners in the emerging ?eld of autonomy and robotics systems, including autonomous vehicles, drones, and UAVs, urban air mobility, and connected and artificially intelligent systems.

Olivier is a UK Chartered Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney and French Patent Attorney. He has built up extensive experience in all aspects of patent law. Olivier is a mechanical engineering and has worked both in corporate in-house departments with companies in the automobile industry (Aston Martin, Jaguar Cars limited, Land Rover in France and Peugeot Citroen in Paris) and in private practice in France (Cabinet Poupon) and in UK (Rouse& Co. Since 2009, Olivier is leading the French IP Department of Airbus. In 2017, in addition of his role Olivier is also in charge of the IP operations for the entirety of Airbus. Since 2014, Olivier is an assessor within the French mediation for inventors (CNIS). He is keen to share his experience with young entrepreneurs and sponsors IP classes organized by the French National Patent Office.

Paula Hay is Executive Director for Additive Design and Manufacturing for UTC Aerospace Systems. Paula is responsible for advancing the use of additive across UTAS.   During her 20 years with United Technologies Aerospace Systems, Paula has held positions of increasing responsibility in engineering, program management, business development, and operations.  Before joining UTAS, Paula was a Captain in the Air Force working on launch vehicle programs. Paula holds a Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from Purdue University as well as Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Technology Management, both from Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Chris has over 15 years of experience as a patent attorney specializing in U.S. and foreign patents in the electrical and mechanical fields, as well as for computer hardware and software inventions. As the co-creator of Patent Advisor, Chris has help bring transparency to the opaque patent prosecution process with never before available patent office analytics.

Rob is the Head of Legal & Compliance at A^3 responsible for legal matters across all projects. Before becoming a lawyer, Rob held various positions as a plumber, a musician, an insurance agent, a world traveler (70 countries and counting), and an early startup employee and later executive. After graduating from NYU Law, he clerked for federal judge Kimberly Mueller, and did litigation and transactions at two firms, Simpson Thacher and Orrick. Rob earned a Bachelor of Science from BYU and a Master of Philosophy from Cambridge University.

Matthew Kuipers leads Intellectual Property for aerial-vehicle rideshare and various autonomous-vehicles programs. His primary responsibilities are to clear IP risks for Uber's businesses, protect Uber's technology, and build external relationships. He manages and grows Uber's patent portfolios in these technology areas. Matt works on developing collaborations to accelerate innovation and commercialization through joint development projects, standards, and open source. He assists the litigation team on defending against third-party patent threats. Regarding open source, Matt is on the governing board of a number of Linux Foundation's projects, such as The OpenChain Project and InterUSS. Matt earned a JD from Cornell Law School and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California.

Alex Long is the Chief IP Counsel and General Counsel of Engineering at GE Aviation, a world-leading provider of jet engines and components, as well as additive manufacturing, avionics, electrical power and mechanical systems for both commercial and military aircraft.  Alex leads the conception, development and execution of IP strategy for this $28 billion aerospace business, and provides executive legal counsel to GE Aviation’s $2 billion R&D engineering organization.  He is a former partner and IP litigator at Latham & Watkins, where he concentrated his practice on enforcing and defending against patent infringement and trade secret misappropriation claims across diverse technologies ranging from molecular diagnostics and life sciences to aerospace, telecommunications, semiconductors, computer hardware, and software.  He received his JD cum laude from Northwestern University, and he holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Lionel M. Lavenue is a partner in Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP’s Reston, Virginia office, and leads the firm’s Aerospace, Aviation, and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) industry group. With experience in more than 180 district court litigations, Lionel's practice focuses on IP matters including patent trial litigation and patent portfolio management for a variety of technologies (including appeals), especially those related to aviation, UAS, UAV, and drone technologies. Lionel has experience in the preparation of over 1,000 patent applications and filing more than 75 IPR petitions and covered business method (CBM) petitions. He frequently speaks and writes on aviation and UAS topics.

Ulf, a Swiss, German and European Patent and Trademark Attorney, works at Nestlé since 2006. He advises on Licensing. In addition, Ulf provides legal guidance to the Dairy and Food Strategic Business Units (e.g., NIDO, MILO, NESQUIK, MAGGI, BUITONI, HERTA) on all legal matters including technical IP and Brand communication. Prior to joining Nestlé, Ulf has obtained his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the Nobel Laureate Prof. Huber. Ulf has then worked in a private IP law firm for 5 years, where he has gained significant experience in the prosecution and defense of patents and trademarks.

Dr. Claudia Milbradt heads the German IP practice of Clifford Chance and is a partner in the Düsseldorf office since 2005. She advises clients since 1999 in the field of intellectual property. Claudia has significant experience in technology transfer, patent license agreements, research and development and litigation (preliminary injunction proceeding, action on the merits, nullity actions, invalidity proceedings) and strategic advice protection of trademarks and patents. Moreover, she is a member of the Global Tech Group of Clifford Chance and regularly holds speeches and publishes articles in legal law journals, books and compilations such as “Patent Litigation in Germany” (2012) or “R&D Agreements – a Guideline” (2011).

Daniel Moczydlower holds a Magna cum Laude degree in Chemical Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and a Masters of Modeling, Simulation, and Process Control from COPPE/UFRJ. Daniel joined Embraer in 2013 as President and CEO of the new Embraer Systems Business Unit, with the mission of structuring the business in line with the diversification and growth strategy of Embraer. From 2017 Daniel took over the position of Vice President Technology Development for the entire Embraer Group. In 2018, Daniel was designated as responsible for the management of all Embraer's Engineering and Technology Centers located in USA, Portugal, Brazil and the engineering teams of Embraer Equipment Division (EDE) and Embraer Advanced Seat Technologies (EAST).

Dr Bobby Mukherjee is a qualified UK and European patent attorney with over 20 years' experience of IP gained in private practice and at BAE Systems plc. He is currently the Head of IP (2009 -) at BAE Systems (a FTSE 100 company), which has one of the largest in-house IP teams in the UK. Bobby was elected President of the IP Federation in July 2012 (two year term).  During his Presidential term, Bobby played a prominent role, on behalf of Industry, in actively engaging with the Parliamentary stages of the UK IP Bill 2013-2014.   He sits on the UK Government Unified Patent Court (UPC) Steering Board.  He is also currently an elected member on the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA) Council.  He currently chairs the CIPA Internal Governance Committee. Bobby's career has mostly been spent in the physics field, obtaining and defending patent protection for new products, processes and services globally. He gained a first degree in Natural Sciences (specialising in Physics) from Cambridge University in 1990, and then a Doctorate Degree (D.Phil.) on High Temperature Superconductors from Oxford University in 1995. He has published various research papers in leading Scientific Journals during that time, and during his work experience at the National Physical Laboratory. Bobby has been named a Corporate IP Star on the global stage by Managing Intellectual Property in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

After completing his PhD and Post Doctoral Research at the University of Birmingham, UK, Andrew moved to Munich and began training as a European Patent Attorney with Meissner Bolte. After qualification, Andrew worked as head of the Native English speaking department in Munich and was made an equity partner in 2010. In 2017, Andrew qualified as a UK Patent Attorney and obtained Chartered Patent Attorney status in 2018. Andrew is still in charge of the Native English speaking department but is now also the Manager of Meissner Bolte's UK office just outside of Manchester, UK. Andrew travels regularly to international conferences and has been an invited speaker, presenting the European perspective on a variety of patenting issues, at a number of national US IP meetings.

Kenneth Pedersen is the Senior Expert in the field of aeronautics in the EPO in Munich, and has more than 28 years’ experience in search, examination, opposition proceedings and classification in this field. As Senior Expert he also advises on technical, legal and procedural issues and on computer-implemented inventions in his department. Kenneth also has practical experience in the field as a private pilot and through participation in museum aircraft restoration.

Lior is a co-founder and CEO of Assembrix Ltd. Lior co-founded Assembrix after gaining 15 years in hands-on experience of technology management. He managed high-performing teams in enterprise software, e-commerce and cyber security industries, ranging from start-ups to multinational corporations. Prior to co-founding Assembrix, Lior was a director of marketing and business development at the cyber and intelligence division of NICE Systems. Before that, Lior held marketing and product management positions at OpenTV UK. Lior holds BA in economics and business administration from Bar Ilan University and an MBA from INSEAD, France.

In October 2017 Bruno was appointed Chief Designer of Airbus. Airbus Group management charged Bruno with giving the Airbus Group range a more emotional design language. On this basis, Bruno set up future vehicle products, new ideas, future initiatives and technology strategy as a guideline for future Airbus Group – some examples of the major innovations he delivered are the A350XWB cabin, Singapore Airlines A350 medium haul Business Class seat, cockpit design and the Concept Plane Vision 2050, both resulting in a new passenger comfort & service experience as well as a higher airline efficiency. He oversees the Airbus Industrial Design Group and also provides leadership and direction for industrial designer teams across the company, as well as to foster a design excellence culture within Airbus Group. He is based in Munich, Germany. Previously Bruno was the Vice President of Transport Design and Design Studio at the Airbus Group Innovations in Munich, from 2013 to 2017 and Airbus Commercial Design Centre in Toulouse, from 1994 to 2013. His mission was to develop all the aircraft products, differentiating their individuality, and creating a seductive interior of cabins and cockpits. Prior to that he was in charge of car and product design at D3-Matra's design studios from 1988 to 1993. Bruno began his career at French automaker Peugeot, where he was responsible for driving the style of small and mid-size cars. Bruno graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle with an MA in Industrial Design/Transport Design

Dr. Alistair Scott is a New Zealand, Australian and European qualified Patent Attorney. Joining Airbus in 2005, he is Vice President and Global Head of Intellectual Property for Airbus and Airbus Group. His technical background is experimental nuclear physics and has divided his subsequent IP career between private legal and industrial IP practice. His current responsibility covers the Airbus Group including Airbus Civil Aircraft. He is not only responsible for the management of the overall Airbus IP function, he additionally maintains operational activity in IP litigation, IP strategy and partnership IP policy development. Alistair is a fellow of the RAeS (Royal Aeronautical Society) and sits on the Council of the IP Federation in the UK.

Among his responsibilities, Nicolas leads Azure IP Advantage, a program designed to protect Microsoft’s customers innovations in the cloud. Nicolas is also responsible for Open Source and IP policy at Microsoft. Prior to that, Nicolas led Microsoft’s standards and intellectual property policy engagements, first out of the Microsoft office in Brussels, then at Microsoft’s headquarters in the USA. Nicolas is registered with the Washington bar as in-house counsel. He is also a French and European patent attorney. He has an educational background in computer science, electrical engineering, intellectual property and business laws. Nicolas is a regular speaker at conferences on intellectual property.

Sabine Thibault-Liger is a counsel in the Competition/Antitrust practice of Linklaters in Paris. Her practice focuses on national and cross-border antitrust litigation (cartels, vertical restraints, abuses of dominant position and follow-on damages actions), notably in the air transport, telecommunications and IT sectors. Sabine has also significant experience in complex standard-essential patent disputes involving FRAND and competition issues. Sabine lectures in European competition law at the University of Paris Dauphine. She is ranked in Who’s Who Legal amongst the best competition lawyers internationally.

Alberto Donadoni is Chief Strategy and Commercial Officer of the ATG Europe group of companies.  ATG is obtaining international recognition and positioning through innovation in the fields of composite materials and Virtual and Augmented Reality, and the licensing of its own Intellectual Property. Alberto has been working in the space sector for over 16 years and has led the strategic positioning of SME’s in this domain throughout his last assignments

Patrice Duboé has been working in Innovation & Technology for more than 20 years in multicultural environments. He is now Innovation Executive Vice President and CTO of the Engineering Services for Capgemini. Highly involved in Innovation, he is expanding the Capgemini Innovation ecosystem through global partners and emerging startups to deliver business, technology and digital solutions that fit clients needs and improve competitiveness. Being passionate about sustainable Innovation, Internet of Everything and Smart Energy, he has also founded a startup to deliver autonomous satellite stations providing solar energy & data connections for isolated territories.

Dr. Satish K. Tiwary is the head of IP Analytics and Intelligence, Airbus. He has been in this capacity since 2013. Airbus IP Analytics and Intelligence organization works with other IP, Technology and Commercial departments to provide IP derived strategic intelligence to the company, taking also into account,  business, finance and market information. Before joining Airbus, Satish worked for GE as an IP Manager for more than 10 years serving a number of GE businesses. Satish has a Ph.D. in Physical Sciences from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India and about 10 years of post-doctoral experience in various areas of physical sciences and magnetism. He has about 30 publications in globally reputable journals.

Italian-born Grazia Vittadini was appointed to her current position at Airbus Defence and Space in January 2017, where she also has been serving as a Member of the divisional Executive Committee. Prior to assuming this role, she was Head of Corporate Audit & Forensics, responsible for all company-wide audit activities worldwide. An engineer by education, with a Master’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University Politecnico di Milano, Grazia Vittadini joined Airbus in 2002 and quickly climbed the management ranks. Among others, she served as Chief Engineer on the Wing High Lift Devices for the A380 in Bremen as well as Head of Airframe Design and Technical Authority for all Airbus aircraft, based out of Hamburg.

Dr. Stephan Wolke studied physics, philosophy and macroeconomics at Bonn university and graduated with a Doctorate in physics. He spent the first five years of his professional career at McKinsey & Company. After founding (and having sold) two own businesses Stephan served in several functions at Bayer AG as well as Danaher Corp. He joined ThyssenKrupp in 2011 and is on corporate level responsible for Intellectual Property & Services (Head of Corporate Intellectual Property at ThyssenKrupp) as a well as head of management board of ThyssenKrupp Intellectual Property GmbH. He is 48 and father of three sons.

Amy Ziegler is a shareholder with Greer Burns & Crain in Chicago. Her practice focuses on intellectual property, Internet and technology law. Ms. Ziegler manages global trademark portfolios for a variety of businesses, including companies in the software, data, manufacturing, luxury and consumer goods industries. She routinely handles high-profile trademark, anti-counterfeiting, patent and copyright enforcement matters, and also manages a substantial domestic and foreign trademark opposition and cancellation docket.
